Take Me Out, Tonight

Out
out

Quote from my brother Mark: "I really do like everything you wear....except for that coat." Myself on the other hand, would prefer as many jackets in my closet as there are cardigans. My wallet says otherwise...

I wore this out to the art show Friday night, and then to get drinks with friends after. I am really excited to relax this upcoming weekend, get some projects done, and maybe even go on a date with Kyle. I can't remember the last time we went on a date, but now that Kyle has a better schedule I am hoping that changes. Prior to taking school seriously, we used to be such movie bums. We went almost every weekend, and then also rented movies, 2 or 3 at a time. I couldn't tell you the last movie I saw in theaters, but I am hoping to see Hunger Games next month, I even borrowed the books from my friend Dan.

Besides going on dates, Kyle and I are thinking of taking a mini-trip soon. Maybe back up the the UP, or to Chicago for a weekend...we could always go to Canada and terrorize my relatives i've never actually met, muwhahaha!

The Rollerblading Project

skate 038

Friday night, Kyle and I headed down to Detroit with his mom and brother to see a really awesome art show. Michelle Gerard, Kyle's sister in law, has been working on an art project for the past two years featuring rollerbladers in an art form. The show was held at the Tanget gallery, and it was awesome. I really want to explain more of the project, but I fear I will botch it up. Basically, Michelle's goal was to use create beautiful photographs of the skaters in a unique art form. She took all the photos and did not use flash. You can find out more (and better) info here on her site.

I loved all of the photos, there were so many from around the Detroit area and it was cool to see parts of the city in some of the photos. Chris and Michelle also went on a little rollerbalding tour with a group of bladers, so there were also photos from New York and other parts of the country that I have never been. They had another separate room next to the gallery set up for people to skate too, with pretty decent sized ramps built for the show.

I think that it was just so awesome to see all of these photos of young adults just doing something they are passionate about, and captured in an art form. Most pictures i've seen of rollerbladers are in sports magazines and the like. So it is cool to see them captured in a way that is not typically seen. That, and it's rollerblading! Something that was so popular when I was in junior high and high school and there are still kids out there, skating off walls like Spiderman. Not going to lie, I half wanted to dig my skates out when I got home, but to this day I still have no idea how to stop. I have mastered the grabbing onto something and hoping I don't fall methood.

Eats: Tofurkey Pasta w/Thai Peanut Sauce

static 019
static 024

Don't you just love it when you get home from a long day of whatever the hell it is that keeps you busy, and you are STARVING, only to discover that you have nothing in your fridge? The trick then, is to get creative. If I am alone, I end up mixing together whatever cereal we have left and call it a night. If Kyle is home, I try to put in a little more effort. This past week, I pulled this one right outta my butt. A Thai-peanut sauce-veggie-pasta of sorts, that ended up being really filling and almost looked like I had planned it.

What you’ll need:

-Half box of quinoa noodles
-Carrots
-Parsnips
-Kale
-2 eggs
-Onion
-Garlic
-Tofurkey sausage
-Seasonings (I used cayenne & black pepper)
-Thai peanut sauce

Peel carrots and parsnips and chop up with onion, kale and garlic. Slice up tofurkey sausage into bite-size bits and combine with veggies in a large skillet with a little olive oil. In a separate pot, boil water and cook quinoa noodles. When the veggies start to cook, add a few eggs, tossing with the veggies and sausage until a little brown. Then add seasonings and peanut sauce.

*I also made another version of this later in the week with broccoli instead of kale, and added a little Thai wine sauce to the peanut sauce and it was beautiful.

Try not to drool, because it will smell amazing at this point.

I also made a little salad with spinach and tomatoes and heated up some cornbread muffins that I had a made a few days earlier. Until Kyle reads this post, he will have no clue that I whipped this one together on a whim, since it looked all strategic and planned.

Things

things

In the past week or so, Winter has decided to show of it's cold, windy and bitter side. I am thankful for the people who create stylish accessories that are actually very practical for this kind of weather. For instance, it may appear that I am wearing a giant blanket around my neck with this over-sized circle scarf, but who is warm? This girl!

This weekend was very full, Kyle and I ran errands all day yesterday, but it felt so good to get a few things off of our plate. We stayed up way too late last night and the house is a mess, all the energy I have is going into lifting the mug of coffee up to my mouth to take giant swigs. I am looking forward to next weekend, I am planning on getting some baking done, maybe even starting a few projects, and lots of relaxing.

It’s Sideburns!

Hi everybody! This is Kyle a.k.a. Sideburns.

I know Sara has been nice enough to share the title of her blog with me for some time now, but I figure it’s about time I said hello once in a while.

I’m 29 going on 12, and I am the lucky guy who gets to see Sara every day.

I also am the proud “parent” of our two cats mary and barry, as well as our constant photo bombing dog louie.

I am fortunate to have an amazing group of people around me, my beautiful fiancé Sara, my twin Brian, 3 great siblings Chris, Danielle and Rich. I also have to mention my good buddy Dan.

I love Detroit tiger’s baseball, reading (very slowly!) and talking about how awesome Michigan is, oh and food, I really love food.

But really I hope to be stopping in more often to say hello to everybody and sharing my ramblings on life, food and everything in between.

Till then!

Kyle

Big Red Barn

me
me

On our Saturday adventures, Kyle and I came across this big old barn and I asked him to take some outfit pictures in front off it. Obviously he did, or you would have no idea what I am talking about. I like finding new places to take pictures, I mean, I love my backyard but don’t get me wrong, a new background is nice every once in awhile. Now that Kyle has a different schedule, I am hoping to pack in more outfit photos in different areas, which will mean more small adventures for us, woot!

You are going to see me in these boots for a little while, as my feet are torn the hell up. I am not going to lie; my feet are extremely pissed at me for reconnecting with my gym membership. I have been running 2-3 times a week on the track, walking Louie and of course Zumba. Now that the snow is gone, Kyle and I are going to bust out the bikes again too. I am hoping to convince Kyle to bike with me to the YMCA, since it is only 2.5 miles or so away. My body will be ready for warmer weather yet! This is great since I am plotting mini trips with Kyle and friends to the beach, picnics, hikes, you name it. Kyle and I are even thinking of taking a mini-trip to Chicago, just the two of us. For once, I am really excited about Spring and Summer.

Little Bits: Bit O' February

LouieGreen

1) This month has given us the most snow that we’ve had all winter, and it was barely nothing. Louie is definitely a snow-puppy though, he never gets tired of running around in the yard, trying to eat snow, and tracking it into the house.

2) I have been addicted to making green smoothies ever since I read Kate’s post. I experiment with different fruits and veggies each time, so good! Don’t leave it in the fridge though, it does not taste (or look) the same the next day.
docschocolate

3) I have been living in my Doc Martins this month due to all of the time I’ve spent in the warehouse at work, counting inventory. I can truly say that I am a 90’s kid at heart.

4) I was supposed to make a cake for my brother’s girlfriend, Mariah for her 21st birthday. I forgot to ask Kyle to get something to decorate the cake with, so to avoid a plain cake, I made cupcakes. Man, now I know why cake-pops are so popular, one of these is beyond filling.

Weekend Recap!

out

Sorry for the small absence on the blog guys, but this weekend was packed! Friday night a bunch of us went out to Orchid in Ferndale for cheap drinks and dancing. I love that my brother and his girlfriend can go now that Mariah is 21, it is always great to have more girls around! We met at my house for a group outfit shot, the guys-well; this is the only picture of the guys. We even met my friend Sara there and it was sooo much fun! We stayed at Orchid for a bit, and then headed down to Rosie’s. I am pretty sure I am done with Rosie’s, it is full of loud jerks and everyone is super dressed up like it’s a fancy club, when in reality it is mostly a sports bar. I think the final straw was when a kid I used to baby-sit (okay, I watched TV while he and my brother Mark terrorized the house) tried to flirt with me and my friend. He actually fell on top of my friend at one point; it was time to go….

out

Saturday we hit up the Value World in Taylor because Kyle had a coupon and we were dropping Jamie off in Dearborn. I found a few cute things for the house and then we booked it to Ikea! I only managed to spend about $45 at Ikea, but man, going in there is better than Cedar Point. I don’t even have to buy anything, even though it is impossible not to, it is just fun looking at everything. Kyle and I then headed to Lucky Strike bowling alley in Novi for Mariah’s birthday, it was a lot of fun. The younger ones headed to their hotel room and Kyle and I headed home for the night like the old farts we are.
out

Now all I want to do is decorate the house! I have every single room decorated in my mind. I even have plans to reuse some of our wedding decorations (that we haven’t even made yet!). Kyle has this weekend off and I think he wants to go out with friends, I however, am in full-on project mode. Hopefully we can find some balance and have some fun this weekend. Argh! It’s only Tuesday! :P

Eats: Avocado & Eggs English Muffin

blue 014

I've mentioned before that I don't eat a whole lot of meat, and also, my love for English muffins. I eat a lot of eggs to put protein in my diet, and typically I will nuke them in a coffee mug in the microwave, which leads to Kyle getting pissed because there are egg guts stuck to the coffee mugs. This time I decided to scramble them up and try them with some left-over avocado. MMMMM!! This was so good! I literally just ate and I want to eat this again.

blue 017
blue 015

All you need to do is scramble up some eggs (I use goat milk, easier on the system) and I threw in some onion. Next, toast up some muffins, I used a gluten-free/multi-grain brand from Whole Foods. Next slice up your avocado, thin enough for a sandwich. If your feeling it, add some hot sauce. You can either slap them together for a giant sandwich, or eat them separately. Either way, eggs, avocado & hot sauce = heaven.

Blue February

gg
gg

The perfect place to take my own outfit photos, I can set the tri-pod on one of the stumps out in the backyard. The drawback? This is Louie's favorite area to poop. It's dodging landmines out there!

I went to the YMCA today with Brian and went to my first Zumba class today, I love it! Sooo much fun! I was the uncoordinated girl in the back, tripping over her own feet. but that really isn't anything new. I then took Louie on a really long walk, and that is after taking outfit photos, making dinner, doing laundry, and cleaning, and working all day. I packed it all in and I am exhausted, but it feels really good.

Great news! Kyle is getting a new work schedule that should lead to more time together! I am soooo happy, because our weeks are packed and the weekend even more crazy! I wonder if I can drag him to a Zumba class...muwahahaha!
