Dress Code

Whoa, TWO blog posts in a row? This day has never come! I have been really slacking on the blogging front lately, I do apologize, but life has been crazy.

A few weeks ago, they changed the dress code for the main office at my work. I work in the smaller office in the warehouse, so it is assumed that the same rules don’t exactly apply to us, since nobody important really ever sees any of us. The new dress code includes: No flip-flops, sneakers only on Fridays, no frayed clothing, no tank tops or low-cut tops, dresses and skirts-no shorter than four inches above the knee, no shorts, and jeans only on Friday. I guess this is pretty standard, but I find it hilarious that they day we found out about the dress-code, I wore shorts to work. I mean, I would argue that these are work-appropriate because of the tweed, but I am not sure if that would fly. That same day another co-worker walked in wearing jeans and sneakers (it was not Friday) and another wore flip-flops. I understand wearing respectable clothing in the work-place, I do. But I can’t help but feel like it is high school all over again. Are we going to get sent home for not wearing appropriate clothes? If we are going to have these rules, I fully support the idea of bringing “spirit week” to the office. You know, find a co-worker to dress alike and be a twin with for a day, have college sweatshirt day, pajama day, 80’s day, mismatch day, or best of all: Star Wars Day! I think it would be awesome. No? Okay fine. Back to work.

Oh, if only we could have those kind of days where I work. Love your top!

Have a great weekend!

Wow, I wish I could get away with those shorts, but I work with someone who'd complain about that too. She's so cranky.

I like your ideas about the dress days. Especially, pajama day!

This is really a cool summertime outfit. I hate when they make changes like that at work. I hope you have a great weekend.

My work is fairly casual- you only have to dress up when you have meetings. I've watched our CEO walk in wearing sweat pants one day. Seriously. Nearly anything goes here. But, I do understand/agree with some of the rules at your work. I hate flip-flops at work. They're ugly and distracting (we all work in open cubes), I also think skirts/dresses/shorts should be long enough to cover your ass.
The outfit you're wearing would be fancy at my work (I type this as I wear cutoff jean shorts, a white tee shirt and sneakers).

Oh man, dress codes suck! They can really be a double standard too. My husband worked at a place where the girls could wear nice t-shirts but he had to always wear a button up, and he was working in the back hauling around crates! And I, personally, don't see why jeans cannot be presentable in the workplace.

Spirit days would be so fun, lol!

I love this outfit! I think the shorts look nice and are dressy enough! I have a pair of dressy shorts too that I wear with tights in the winter, but I haven't been brave enough to wear them to the office, because I don't think they really fit the dress code here either.

I also love your necklace, shirt and bag. The whole look is win to me!

Seriously digging those tailored shorts and your top! I LOVE the idea of tailored shorts suits and such - they are such a playful take on work attire! :)

I work in a lab in the warehouse/production area so I can never wear skirts, only jeans & close toed shoes/sneakers ;_; That is why I always make it a point to try to never wear jeans and a t-shirt on the weekends or while I'm at work.

HOWEVER, I know there is a dress code for the corporate office upstairs and the ladies there don't follow crap. "Business casual" means halter top dresses, racerback tank tops, off-the-shoulder tops, skirts that are WAY too short and are probably meant for the club, etc. They also wear the highest heels known to man (which are all super cute) but it is amusing to watch them all stumble around because they can barely walk in them.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned because my mom taught me how to dress for work :P

What's funny is some of those ladies come downstairs and don't cover up, so it's horrible GMP and I'm like uh. You're wearing a sleeveless halter top dress in a warehouse where there's forklifts around? Okay, have fun with that accident report.

Sorry for the rant. I just want to wear nice things ;_;

I love your shorts, regardless of whether they're in dress code or not! And tweet totally should be.

In response to your comment on my Berlin post, I have never seen a city so covered in graffiti! I was never really a big fan of it, but in that city you need to at least try to appreciate it otherwise it'll be an eye sore. I think some of it is legitimate street art, but a lot is just graffiti. I think the city can't afford to clean it up, but also appreciates the subculture it generates. I have to admit looking for quirky cool graffiti is a fun photography challenge and it's helped me keep my eyes peeled for graffiti in other cities, like Reykjavik for example.

Dress codes are so annoying. Ok, one should wear properly for work, but look at your outfit! It's perfect! Bah...

I used to blog every other day, but my life has gotten out of control lately, so I know what you mean! Love the shorts.

If I had to work along side you, I would think you look work appropriate! Those shorts definitely have a young, professional vibe to them.

My sister works at a library and after they got a new director a few years ago, the dress code got pretty strict. It sounds very similar to yours! But, it is a library after all. It's just a bunch of modest middle aged ladies, so it didn't really bother many of them! lol

I love your spunky attitude. Dress codes are exactly the kind of conformity we should rebel against, if not openly than subtly.

A group of jurors once all wore orange shirts (to show their solidarity); it pissed the judge off but there was nothing he could do: you can't punish someone for wearing an ordinary shirt.

Aww, dress codes suck big time. It's never really bothered me in high school, but it's still not fun to deal with. Anyways, good luck with your work dress code. :]

P.S. Go try plum lipstick!

Lots of love, B

I really love the mix of patterns and textures here. Dress codes tend to be hard to work with, but you look like you're on the right track to finding the little fashionable loopholes!
